Once a year I help the Miss Brainerd Lakes Scholarship Program, by producing an open video and some contestant videos leading up to the event. This year for the interviews I decided to try a cleaner look with just a plain black background. I showed up for the shoot to find they were all wearing their black pageant t-shirts. Black on black. Instead of a soft, subtle backlight, I cranked up the back soft box to a little more than half the key light power. By doing that I was able to get separation between the contestants and the background.

Once upon a day job

Back in 2009 I had the privilege to work on the In-Fisherman Ice Guide television series. After the initial 13 week run, the series would rerun the following 13 weeks. During the rerun period a new outreach program called Hunt. Fish. Feed. was developed and needed to be promoted. In order to get the promotion into an Ice Guide program, it needed to replace an existing edit. It became one of my favorite segments. Here it is.

A Tutorial?

Demo Reels.

I was having a hard time deciding if I should make one demo reel or several highlighting different skill sets. In the end, I decided I should make several. Was it the right decision? You tell me.
